Half Moonset

‘Round about midnight…

A spectacular (half) moonset as the Moon headed down behind the Coast Range in western Oregon.

An astronomical occasion that beaconed to have a turn in this week’s challenge.

I don’t usually submit multiple challenge entries; but this one begged to be shared. As the moon neared the horizon, its size and color were amplified to create this magical glow.

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Half and Half.”

    1. Thanks, Tina.
Also an opportunity to try out a pretty remarkable camera I purchased to take kayaking (not willing to risk dumping my DSLR)… a Nikon Coolpix P900. The digital reach is like a telescope- 83x 24-2000mm!!!
I hand-held for this shot, could have been a bit sharper if the tripod was along. (and no, not kayaking for this one)

This will never replace the DSLR by any means… but a good accessory tool!
