Lan Su Chinese Garden
This gem of a garden is nestled in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon. Walk through the gates to find one square city block transformed into a magical place. The garden takes visitors back to a 16th Century courtyard in China. Through these ornate doors… catch a glimpse of the Peony Show currently on exhibit.
Enjoy the beauty and tranquility …

Beautiful. It never fails to amaze me that this quiet place is so close to the loud city streets. I’ve got to see the Peony show one year.
It’s great that we both can appreciate the wonderful aspects of our two Northwest cities: Portland and Seattle!
Good to know you have been to this garden!
I went to college in Portland and really enjoyed my time in the city. Now I visit my sister in Forest Grove and occasionally get to Portland for work. It’s a great place!
And so… our worlds have things in common. My daughter lives in Seattle; I did my undergrad studies in Forest Grove!
Wow, what fun connections. 🙂
What a lovely place right in the centre of the city! And I adore peonies so would have liked to popped inside to see them properly.

The gardens are a gem… glad you could enjoy peonies in the photos, but agree, stopping by in person would have been lovely.
How far is Portland from Seattle? Doable in a day?
Interesting you should ask this question… we made just that trip yesterday to assist our daughter in a move!
It is doable so long as rush hour times are factored in. Getting stuck in Portland and, most importantly, Tacoma-Seattle traffic is something I highly recommend avoiding. With limited time, you don’t want to be parked on the I-5 freeway.
We travelled from a community west of Portland and left at 6:30ish in the morning and had smooth travels all the way to Seattle. We left Seattle at 6:30 in the evening and had smooth travels again. With good traffic, you can drive from Portland to Seattle in about 3 to 3.5 hours.
